Magic Lab Master Degree Dissertation Defense in 2021 was successfully held in Room 102, Tongda Building, Tongji University at 9:00 on June 16, 2021, which was carried out concurrently through online platform.

Lijuan Wan and Lin Qiheng, postgraduate students of 2018, passed the defense of their dissertations. Lijuan Wan’s  dissertation is “Time-of-Day Based Traffic Signal Control Using Trajectory Data at lsolated Intersections”. Qiheng Lin gave a report entitled “Dedicated Lanes with Intermittent and Dynamic Priority for Connected and Automated Vehicles on Freeways”.

Lijuan Wan's main research contents are as follows,

Ÿ With under-saturated traffic conditions, an approach is proposed to identify TOD breakpoints at an isolated intersection based on the trajectory data of probe vehicles, instead of conventional traffic volumes.

Ÿ A hierarchical multi-objective optimization framework is developed to optimize fixed-time traffic signals based on sampled vehicle trajectories at isolated signalized intersections, which is applicable to low-resolution trajectory data.

Ÿ With the unknown distribution of vehicle arrival, an optimization model of traffic signals is presented based on the evolution of traffic shockwaves using sampled trajectory data.

Qiheng Lin's research first conducted freeway basic segment capacity analysis and passenger car equivalent estimation for CAVs in mixed traffic condition. Then, the control logic for DLIDP was proposed, which consists of two control approaches, Lane-Controller-based (LC-based) and V2X-based. The logic dynamically controls non-CAVs entering or exiting the Dedicated Lane (DL), responding to real-time demand variation. A mixed-traffic simulation platform was also constructed to test the DLIDP performance. Results showed that DLIDP is responsive to real-time demand and has batter performance than static DL.

The chairman of this defense is Professor Hong Kam LO of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the defense committee members include Professor Wanjing Ma, Professor Kun An, Researcher Ling Wang, Associate Professor Yichuan Peng, Researcher Chunhui Yu also attended the defense.
