The 29th ITS World Congress was held at the Suzhou International Expo Center from October 15th to 20th, 2023. A delegation of 10 members from the MAGIC Lab research group, including Professor Wanjing Ma, Associate Professor Chunhui Yu, Researcher Zicheng Su, and doctoral and master's students such as Luoyi Huang, Yuxuan Sun, Zilin Shen, Yuehai Hu, Xinyan Zhang, Xinpeng Li, and Libing Liu, attended the conference.

At this conference, Professor Wanjing Ma organized a special interest meeting titled 'Managing Mixed Traffic with Connected and Automated Vehicles: Challenges and Opportunities,' with Researcher Zicheng Su serving as the moderator. This special interest meeting invited Professor Guangquan Lu from Beihang University, Assistant Professor Huan Yu from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Assistant Professor Wei Ma from Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Associate Professor Chunhui Yu from the research group to share their academic insights. Together, they discussed traffic control methods for novel mixed traffic flow.

Professor Guangquan Lu began with a keynote speech titled 'A unified model of driving behavior based on risk-field theory.' He introduced an approach to unify driver behavior modeling based on risk-field theory, applying this model to various aspects, including vehicle following behavior, lane-changing behavior modeling, road network estimation, modeling of vehicle interactions at signalized and unsignalized intersections, and trajectory planning for autonomous vehicles at unsignalized intersections.

Dr. Huan Yu delivered a keynote presentation titled 'Safety-critical traffic control by connected automated vehicles.' Her presentation primarily focused on enhancing convoy safety through the control of connected autonomous vehicles. She discussed control theory approaches to govern the trajectories of connected autonomous vehicles, aiming to respond to sudden acceleration and deceleration actions of preceding or following human-driven vehicles and prevent traffic accidents.

Dr. Wei Ma gave a keynote presentation titled 'Cybersecurity challenges in connected and automated vehicles: Two exploratory studies.' Dr. Ma's presentation primarily addressed information security concerns in a connected environment. Through two research studies, he demonstrated the significant impact of information attacks on the traffic systems in a connected environment, providing valuable insights for the future development of information security in connected scenarios.

Associate Professor Chunhui Yu delivered a keynote presentation titled 'Signal Optimization at an Isolated Intersection under Cyclic Vehicle Arrivals with Spatially Sparse Trajectory Data.' He introduced a signal optimization approach based on sparse trajectory data. By overlaying sparse trajectory data, incorporating traffic wave models to estimate the periodic variations in vehicle arrivals, and establishing an optimization model, he determined signal control strategies for fixed and non-fixed phase structures.
